Biography
Ilyas Raphaël Khan grew up in a musical Indo-French family in India.
He comes from an Indian classical music background, whose traditions were passed on from generation to generation. Recently he created Tablaboxing, a musical form combining the ancient Tabla rhythms of India with contemporary Beatboxing sounds from the West.
Ilyas started performing at 14. His musical career has taken him to festivals across the world. In France, he has performed at the Festival Solidays, the Institut du Monde Arabe, the Festival du Bout du Monde, Scène Watteau and the Festival Interceltique de Lorient. In the United Kingdom he has performed at the South Bank Centre, the London Jazz Festival, Camp Bestival and the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. He has played in Italy, Denmark, Ireland, Lebanon, Tunisia, Morocco, Kazakhstan and Mexico. In India, he has played at the Swiss Embassy, Narial Pani, Mumbai, and the Birla Auditorium in Jaipur,
He was selected for the France Beatbox championship 2015 and has also performed with “Alem”, the world champion of Beatbox.
He also played at the Paris Fashion week for Franck Sorbier and was at the KitKat advert 2019 with 27 Million views in 24h. He has collaborated with Bérénice Béjo for Konstelacio, an educational project promoting cultural diversity.
He has played in Paul O’Grady’s show on ITV London, Balcony TV India, Mundofonías Radio Spain, Echappées Belles on France 5, France 3, France Culture with Lilian Thuram at the Pompidou Centre and also L’ Inde du Bout des Doigts. He has composed the music for the film “Ganesh Yourself” by Arte.
